The Transportation Execution Center (TEC) system is a proprietary, web-based system hosted to meet the performance requirements of all of SCO's customers. The system is primarily based on Java application servers (j2ee) and hence available across multiple hardware platforms. This enables SCO to continuously revisit the hardware platform for price/performance and make necessary changes without affecting changes to the software.
SCO also invests significantly in the .NET platform to best interface with significant third-party products and partners. Further, there is a significant reliance on industry communication standards, including Internet technology standards, as this enables seamless integration with partner systems and services. Internally, the software is highly modular to enable separation of the user interface software from business logic, integration and database logic.
The TEC is highly customizable right from user interface preferences (subscription based attention lists) down to rule-driven custom workflows and schedules. The TEC integration strategy adheres to standards like XML, SOA, W3C, as well as transport mechanisms like FTP and HTTPS. Notifications can be customized also, via subscriptions, to enable timely, accurate and relevant notifications to interested parties. This is particularly important for a TRANSPORTATION EXECUTION CENTER, as it provides pre-emptive notification and management by exception.
